The Faberge World Egg

A Faberge Tradition lives on

Peter Carl Faberge achieved an immortal reputation through unique creations such as the Easter eggs for the family of the Russian czar. None of his many imitators ever measured up to him. But the traditional craftsmanship and style of Peter Carl Faberge would probably be reserved only for museums and a small circle of private collectors if the Faberge Co, New York, had not trusted the jewellery manufactory Victor Mayer with continuing Peter Carl Faberge's life work. Victor Mayer continually emphasizes the connection to the original Faberge style. Every new design must withstand close scrutiny from Faberge experts before being released for production. So even today, these works of art being created in small and limited editions have no match in their precision of craftsmanship or their stylistic expressiveness.

The art of enamelling has always been a Faberge trademark. Guillocheurs create the base for the enamel, engraving complex patterns in the gold ground with steel engravers. These fine structures in the form of moirés, rays or wave patterns break the light and ensure a deep, magical glow after the enamelling. Despite the greatest care, the enameller learns only after multiple firings whether the enamel has achieved its mystical glibber of color. The finest pieces have up to seven coatings of enamel on the hand -engraved ground. The extensive palette of colours and colour nuances allows each object to be produced according to individual wishes.

Even now, the formulas for each shade remain a closely guarded family secret handed down from generation to generation. The enamel specialists of workmaster Victor Mayer know no bounds in their creative finesse. Today, only they have mastered the unique craft as it was developed in the workshops of Peter Carl Faberge in St. Petersburg and Moscow.

Only originals may bear the "Faberge" stamp. In addition, all products are supplied with a unique number and the "VM" mark of today's only worldwide authorised workmaster, Victor Mayer. All pieces are produced in limited editions and registered. Wth such hallmarks, the authenticity of the the "Objets d' Art" and the jewellery can always be established in the future without doubt.
